Community team receives football kit from diaspora

MASVINGO – A community football team, Pangolin FC has received a major boost of football kit and equipment from diaspora sponsors facilitated by Decibel to promote community football in a bid to reduce drug abuse among the youths.

The football equipment donated include 14 outfield jerseys, shorts and socks; one goalkeepers’ kit; a single kit bag; ten soccer balls; 50 training cones; two tracksuits, one for the coach and another for the assistant coach and a single net bag.

The equipment was sent to Zimbabwe jointly by Courage Ngwarai who is based in the Netherlands; Daniel Mazhindu aka ‘Decibel’ based in the United Kingdom (UK) and Alois Mweneziko who is in the United States of America (USA).

The coach Sixoleleni Mkandla received the equipment on behalf of the team. He said this will make the team be able to join the competitive football in the division two

“As a team, we have been boosted enough for us to start preparing for competitive football,” said Mkandla.

Pangolin fc is a community football team that is still in the playing in the social league but it has aspirations to make it to division two. They were established in 2006. They have no formal sponsors so players and willing spectators pay monthly contributions towards the welfare of the team.

One of the sponsors Decibel was born in Pangolin and the coaches appointed him as the team’s International Liason person and that is how they managed to secure the equipment for the team.
