MASVINGO – A memorial soccer match for late Masvingo journalist and football fanatic Clayton ‘Cletso Mukanya’ Shereni is on this Saturday at Victoria Junior Primary School.
The match between Guzzlers FC and Mustaph FC will begin at 1pm.
Clayton was a Guzzlers FC member. Both teams compete in Masvingo Soccer Social League.
Mukanya’s close friend and senior journalist Godfrey Mutimba confirmed the match to The Mirror. He added that Clayton’s family will grace the match.
Clayton died on January 9, 2024, after a long illness.
“The match will be played between Guzzlers FC, Clayton’s former team and Mustaph FC as a way of holding a befitting remembrance to our young man who had a strong passion for soccer, in both playing and reporting.
“We also invited his close friends from Mashava, Bulawayo and other areas who will play in the match. The match will be followed by interactions and deliberations on his life in society and professionally,” said Mutimba.
Shereni who was a multiaward winning journalist worked for local provincial papers in Masvingo before he joined Zimbabwe.Com as a correspondent. He was editor at the Media Center at the time of his death. He was buried at the Lawn Cemetery.
