Chiredzi – Christian Care has installed solar-driven water pumps and tanks to replace manual boreholes in Chiredzi’s Ward 5 and 7.

Residents in the two suburbs faced critical shortages of water as they had to queue as early as 0400hours for water. This caused many problems including failing to observe social distance under the Covid19 lockdown.

The installation of a solar pump, one in each ward means that water is now being pumped into a tank and then residents are drawing water from the tanks. This has almost completely wiped out the long queues at the boreholes at Vhurumuku Shops borehole and in Magwaza.

Ward 5 councillor Blessing Mazinyani thanked Christian Care for the donation and said this has also solved problems where residents were resorting to water from unsafe sources.

Residents were also buying water from water merchants who brought the water in scotchcarts.

“the water tanks are greatly appreciated especially because it has decongested the single borehole everyone used in Magwaza especially during Covid-19.

Before the tank and pump installments people resorted to unsafe water sources, walked distances to fetch water, paid those that established themselves as cart-water providers ,queued boreholes or either seeked water from nearby wards,” he said.

Ward 5 councillor Blessing Mazinyani said , the water tanks are greatly appreciated especially because it has decongested the single borehole everyone used in Magwaza especially during Covid-19.

“We are indebted to the Christian Care donor , for the assistance with the pumps and tanks, ward 5 has for a long time been facing water problems,we just appeal to residents to safeguard the property, adhering to health protocols”.

United Chiredzi Residents and Rate Payers Association(UCHIRRA) director Josphat Tizirai said residents welcomed the alternative , as it has done away with what he called a ‘rural setting’ borehole water source to upgraded standards.

“The tanks are welcomed as a great substitute , although we still have challenges with clean water sources , water purification has not been done maybe because of an incompetent engineering department at the town council”, he said.

The director further, also commented , that the town’s water department was not effectively executing their duties to provide adequate water, given the fact that the amount of water residence receive is less and that Tshovani residents still face a need for clean purified water. https://masvingomirror.com
