CHIVI – A teacher at Shindi Secondary School in Chivi District is suspected to have fled to South Africa after 12 donated bicycles which he was supposed to give to students went missing.

Sources told The Mirror that Innocent Mawere disappeared just after the matter of missing bicycles and the laptops was reported at Ngundu Police Station. The fence was also stolen at the school.

Mawere was responsible for the bicycle programme which is funded by IGATE, an organisation that caters for the girl child. There are reports that he could have exchanged the bicycles for goats and cattle with villagers.

Masvingo Police spokesperson Inspector Kudakwashe Dhewa said he was yet to receive the case.

The School Development Committee (SDC) vice chairperson Gift Musundurwa said that the school lost 12 bicycles which were donated by IGATE and Mawere was the head of the IGATE Department.

Councillor Livison Mundingi, who covers the area confirmed the case and said the matter is now with the Police.

“Mawere took a sick leave as parents started demanding an account of the bicycles and towards the opening he disappeared and it is suspected that he went to South Africa,” said a source.https://masvingomirror.com
