CHIREDZI – A 24-year-old Chivi man was on Thursday slapped with a 16-year jail term by Regional Magistrate Judith Zuyu after he raped his young brother’s sister-in law (muramu).
Magistrate Zuyu said Dumisani Mapfunde’s crime is worse in that he raped a relative.
On 17 July 2024 at around 7pm, Mapfunde of Machegwe Village, Chief Shindi in Chivi went to the sister-in-law’s homestead and forcibly opened the door.
Mapfunde struck the woman with a log. He threatened to her with a knife if she refused to have sex with him.
He then ordered her to lie down and then raped her once without her consent.
The woman reported the matter to Police the following day leading to the arrest of Mapfunde.
Mapfunde pleaded guilty.
