Chivhu – A 32-year-old woman from Chivhu was raped and robbed by a stranger she met on path from the city centre to her place of residence in the high-density suburb on Monday.
Police in Mash East have since launched a manhunt for the suspect.

Provincial Police spokesperson Insp Simon Chazovachiyi confirmed the case to The Mirror and appealed for information that can lead to the arrest of the suspect.
It is understood that on May 23, 2022 at 1pm, the complainant was walking alone along a footpath going to her home. She met the accused near Chivhu graveyard who blocked her way and demanded the complainant’s cell phone.
She surrendered her J5 Samsung, US$6 and some groceries.

The robber then grabbed the complainant’s right hand and dragged her into a bush and raped her once before fleeing from the scene. The complainant proceeded home and told her sister who in turn reported the case at ZRP Chivhu.
The complainant was taken to Chivhu Hospital for medical examination.
“We are appealing for information that can lead to the arrest of the accused persons.

“We are also encouraging members of the public to use public roads and to quickly report issues of abuse to the Police for a quick reaction by law enforcement agents,” said Chazovachiyi.
Cases of violence against women are on the rise in Chivhu; in March a house maid was attacked by an unknown assailant and robbed of a cellphone at around 5am as she took a child to a bus stop.

On April 20, 2022, a girl (16) left battling after she was attacked and stabbed 12 times in a failed attempt to rape her as she came from a shopping center in Featherstone
On April 30,2022 a sex worker was raped and robbed in Chivhu.
No arrests have been made so far and women in Chivhu no longer feel safe.https://masvingomirror.com
