CHIKOMBA – Chivhu Town Board Chairperson and Ward 8 councillor, Learnmore Mufamba was arrested on Monday for allegedly duping a Harare woman of her Nissan Navara.
Allegations are that Mufamba paid US$1 000 deposit for Tsitsi Maseta’s Nissan Navara in March this year but disappeared with it when he went on a test drive. The car was going for US$4 500.
Efforts to get a comment from Mufamba were futile as he is said to be in detention at Southerton Police Station in Harare. The case was reported in April at Glen Norah Police Station.
Maseta confirmed the arrest of Mufamba in a telephone interview with The Mirror.
Sources said that on March 30, 2022 Maseta advertised her car on WhatsApp groups. Mufamba allegedly went to Maseta’s home in Harare and paid US$1 000 deposit. The car was pegged at US$4 500. After paying the US$1 000 he returned the following day and took the car for a road test.
Mufamba allegedly then blocked Maseta’s number.
Sources said that at one time Maseta spent a week at Mufamba’s house in a bid to recover her car but the accused was nowhere to be found. His wife allegedly told Maseta that her husband was in Harare for some workshop.
“I confirm that Mufamba has been arrested. I made a police report sometime in April after he went away with my car after paying US$1 000.
“When I tried to find out why he did not return he said he had taken the car to a mechanic but he then blocked my number since then,” said Maseta.
