CHIKOMBA-Chivhu Magistrate Fadzai Mtombeni has remanded a 77-year-old man in custody to Friday for sentencing for allegedly raping his 14-year-old niece.
Cleopas Tirivatatu Chimombe (77) of Zhakata Village, Headman Mutengwa, under Chief Neshangwe, appeared in court yesterday.
He is facing charges of raping the minor (name withheld) in two incidents sometime in 2022.
Prosecutor Mike Choto told the court that the minor informed her grandmother about the rape incidents, and she refused to file a Police report.
Circumstances are that on an unknown date in 2022, Chimombe went to a dining room where the sleeping minor was at night and raped her once.
He again raped her in the kitchen the next day and threatened to kill her if she disclosed the matter to anyone.
The complainant then told her grandmother about the two rape incidents, and the former allegedly refused to report the matter.
The minor then told Joshua Dembetembe, a Police officer, about the rape ordeal leading to Chimombe’s arrest. The State produced a medical examination report in court as evidence.
