MVUMA —The Minister of Local Government and Public Works, July Moyo has approved Chirumhanzu Rural District Council’s (RDC) ZWL$9 billion budget for 2023.

Chirumhanzu RDC Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Lovemore Chatikobo confirmed the developments to The Mirror.

“I am glad to inform our stakeholders that our ZWL$9 billion budget for 2023 has been approved. We appreciate the quick approval of the budget since this will enable us to immediately embark on our planned projects and complete them in time,” said Chatikobo.

The budget increased by 760 percent due to fluctuations of the interbank rate but the USD budget remained static.

Last year’s budget was the ZWL$649 million.

The council is set to receive ZWL$1, 2 billion from the devolution fund.

Chatikobo said some of the key projects that the local authority is to undertake include the construction of a block at Hillview Primary School in Ward 23 and another classroom block at Farden Primary School in Ward 11.

He said the local authority is going to construct four clinics namely Chapwanya, Musena, Mudzengi and Chimbindi.

Water provision remains key to the development of the district and the local authority also intends to procure borehole drilling equipment using funds from the current budget. Some boreholes are lined up for drilling in all wards.

The local authority will also continue to focus on developing Mvuma since it was recently granted town status by Government.

Chirumanzu was accorded town status in 2021, making it the seventh town in the Midlands province after Gweru, Zvishavane, Shurugwi, Redcliff, Gokwe and Kwekwe.
