Chirumhanzi – Zibagwe MP donates cement for clinic construction

KWEKWE – Chirumhanzi- Zibagwe constituency legislator, Jacob Chokururama has donated 20 bags of cement and diesel for the construction of a clinic in Zibagwe Ward 2 where the nearest clinic is 30km away.
He made the donation during a site visit on Saturday. The initiative is spearheaded by Zibagwe Rural District Council (RDC).
“The community has been walking for close to 30 km to access health services in Chiundura or at Bob Swift which is about 12km from here. This has been causing a lot of problems especially for pregnant women.
“I am pledging my full support. I would like to commend the community for their contribution because they are the resources we need to build the clinic,” said Chokururama.
The diesel will be used to transport bricks molded by villagers in the villages.
The distance also made it difficult for women to access Sexual Reproduction Health Services (SRHS).
Ward 2 Councillor, Basilio Mutosvori facilitated the drilling of a borehole at the site.
He said the project requires collective action and input to come to fruition.
“Council does not have resources for building this clinic at the moment so as the leadership we decided to kick start the project with help from the community. We drilled a borehole, footing of the building has been done and council has given us a tipper truck to carry bricks, pit sand and river sand,” said Mutosvori.
The community is providing labour and bricks towards the initiative and the project is expected to be complete in three months.
Getrude Vumba, a Ward 2 villager said the community lacks access to health services.
“We are facing a lot of challenges especially pregnant women as it is difficult for them to access health services around here. It is our wish that this clinic will be built within a very short space of time,” she said.
The local authority has 29 clinics servicing 33 wards and some villagers are traveling long distances of about 60km to access a clinic according Zibagwe RDC masterplan report of study findings.
