Chirumanzu Councillor Windizi succumbs to Covid-19

CHIRUMANZU-Chirumanzu Rural District Council Ward 3 Councillor Joseph Pedzisai Windizi has died of Covid-19 related complications.

He was 50.

Chirumanzi RDC chairlady, Councillor Gladys Hungwe Chivige confirmed the death of Windizi in a telephone interview with The Mirror.

“We are saddened by the loss of Cllr Windizi and the Council will be poorer without him. Windizi died at his home and the doctors who attended the scene confirmed that he died of Covid-19. Windizi had a history of diabetes and BP but that did not deter him from attending to his duties as a councillor.

“As a member of the finance committee he made sure that clinics and schools were built throughout the RDC. He was also very popular with the electorate as witnessed by his re-election after serving his first term from 2013 to 2018. His death came as a big surprise to the entire community because the previous day he had presided over distribution of social welfare food, he was very hard working. May his dear soul rest in peace,” said Chivige.

Windizi died on February 4 at home and was laid to rest on the following day at his homestead in Magurupira Village under Chief Chirumanzi.

He is survived by his wife and three children, a girl and two boys.

The previous day he was distributing Presidential Inputs of fertiliser at Vhudzi Business Centre to villagers where he addressed the audience and distanced himself from the alleged theft of free inputs by other councillors in Chirumanzi Constituency.

The abuse of Presidential Inputs in Chirumanzi has seen several councillors being questioned by the Police and a manager of one the parastatals involved in the distribution of the inputs being arraigned before the courts at Mvuma Magistrates Court.
