Chiredzi Town dollarises bills

CHIREDZI – Chiredzi Town Council (CTC) is now billing its services in United States dollars although residents have an option to pay in local currency using the prevailing interbank rate.

Town Secretary, Engineer Wesley Kauma told residents and ratepayers in a statement dated January 18, 2024, that all outstanding bills will be converted into US$ on January 31, 2024.

He said that the US$ bills were necessitated by the inflating ZWL$ as most ratepayers settle their bills when the money has lost value there by prejudicing council and crippling operations.

“All bills for goods and services shall be generated in US$. Clients and ratepayers shall have the option to pay either in US$ or Zimbabwean dollars equivalent to the prevailing rate.

“All residents and stakeholders are strongly encouraged to clear all outstanding balances before such balances are converted to US$ at the prevailing bank rate,” reads the statement.

The local authority’s 2024 proposed budget is also pegged in US$.
