Chiredzi – Chiredzi Town Council has with immediate effect banned illegal car washes that have mushroomed in residential areas, particularly in Tshovani Suburb. The chairman of the committee on environment Musingashari Musingashari who was represented by Ward 5 councillor Blessings Mazinyani announced the resolution at a full council meeting on May 3 and said the car washes are situated on residential areas and are using treated water. He said car washes are everywhere in the suburb. “The issue of banning of car washes in residential areas has been discussed and all unregistered car washes are banned with immediate effect,” added council chairman Gibson Hwende. Residents welcomed the decision. “This move has been long overdue, we are happy with the council action. However, council must go on to provide space where these car washes should be established outside residential areas,” said Josphat Tizirai who is United Chiredzi Residents and Ratepayers Association (UCHRRA) chairman.
