CHIREDZI – The Minister of Local Government and Public Works, July Moyo has approved Chiredzi Rural District Council (RDC) ZWL$7 billion budget for 2023.

Key items in the budget include service delivery and road maintenance.

The budget rises from ZWL$1, 2 billion last year mainly due to inflation.

Chiredzi RDC Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Ailes Baloyi said the budget is attainable and realistic as it is a continuation of the projects that have been there on the 2022 budget.

“The 2023 capital projects are mainly in the area of water and sanitation, road network improvement and expansion and housing developments,” said Baloyi.

Baloyi also alluded to the need to provide refuse collection to some business centers in the district that are fast growing and these include Mkwasine, Chikombedzi and Chilonga.

“Chikombedzi, Mkwasine and Chilonga are rapidly growing and there is now a need to introduce refuse collection,” he said.

The finance committee chairperson, Alderman Munyengeri Murawo hailed Minister July Moyo for speedily approval of the budget adding that this will enable the local authority to start programmes and projects right from the beginning of the year.

“I urge my fellow councillors to be leaders in sustainable economic development planning, and by collectively demonstrating our national resolve in promoting, fostering and improving the quality of lives of our people in line with the attainment of the Nation’s Vision of a prosperous and empowered upper middle-income society by 2030,” he said.
