CHIREDZI – Chiredzi Rural District Council (RDC) is set to procure motorbikes for its 42 councillors at a cost of US$80 000, the local authority’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Ailes Baloyi has said.
He told a full council meeting held last Friday that that council has submitted relevant documentation to the Procurement Regulatory Authority of Zimbabwe (PRAZ) for processing.
“We are in the process of acquiring motorbikes for you and we have submitted everything to PRAZ and we are awaiting the response to conduct the tender processes.
“We have applied for tendering because the money we are going to spend on motorbikes is above threshold to request for quotations so we need to do tendering processes so we are awaiting a response from PRAZ,” said Baloyi.
He added that the local authority has a poor road network and the motorbikes are to alleviate transport problems.
Baloyi also said that the local authority is in the process of acquiring a refuse truck.
“As council we also have plans to procure a refuse truck like the one used in urban areas to collect garbage from all the townships,” said Baloyi.
