CHIREDZI – Chiredzi Rural District Council (RDC) has purchased a water rigging machine and backhoe loader at a total cost of RTGS$10,7m.
The equipment which was delivered in early August was procured using devolution funds allocated to the local authority by the Government in 2019.
The local authority received $13 424 000 as devolution funds in 2019.
Chiredzi RDC acting Chief Executive Officer Mikia Majatame told The Mirror that the rigger will be used to drill boreholes in the district and it will also be available for hire to individuals.
“After going through all the required tender processes two companies were selected to supply the equipment to us. We acquired the rigger from Barzem at a cost of RTGS$$7 540 792 and the backhoe loader was supplied by a company called Tiplong at a cost of RTGS$3 240 000. The equipment was delivered early this month and we hope that by acquiring the water rigger the availability of clean water in our district will improve” said Majatame.
