CHIREDZI – Chiredzi District Development Coordinator’s (DDC) offices have closed today after an employee at the Registrar’s offices tested positive to Covid19.
The DDC, Lovemore Chisema who is also chairperson of the Covid19 district taskforce confirmed the development to The Mirror. He said that the closure will remain until all staff members are tested and fumigation of the place is done.
The incident has triggered panic in the small sugarcane town as the offices have recently been a hive of activity with hundreds of war collaborators coming in to register for compensation.
“What it means is that hundreds of people who passed through the offices during a Zanu PF run war compensation programme may have been infected,” said a resident who declined to be named for fear of reprisals.
Zanu PF continues to hold large meetings in the town despite a public outcry and the fact that the district was declared a hot spot for Covid19.
“One of the employees at the Registrar’s office tested positive so we are temporarily closed to allow fumigation of the premises and for all employees to get tested for Covid19,” said Chisema.
