Chiredzi – The councillor for Ward 26 in Chiredzi Anthony Magavude has appeared in court facing charges of stealing 40 bags of fertilizer that were to be distributed under the Pfumvudza Programme.

Magavude is jointly charged with the local Agritex Officer Lucia Mugadza.

It is alleged that on February 2021, Magavude and Mugadza connived and stole 40 bags of fertilisers from the 400 bags they were supposed to distribute to the farmers in their ward.

He appeared before Magistrate Simbarashe Gundani.

Villagers who turned up at court were up in arms against their councillor and they accused him of short-changing them on donations coming from Government.

One villager accused Magavude of selling elephant meat donated to villagers by the National Parks. They also said he once took away rice donated to the people by the First Lady Auxillia Mnangagwa.

Magavude however, vehemently denied the allegations and said that it was the work of his political foes.

He accused an aspiring councillor he only identified as Matumba for fueling the allegations.

Efforts to get hold of Matumba were futile.
