Chiredzi – Chiredzi Regional Magistrate Judith Zuyu will give her ruling on a corruption case involving two senior Chiredzi Town council managers on December 28, 2020.

Zuyu was supposed to deliver judgment on Town Engineer, Wesley Kauma and Town Planner Consider Kubiku on Monday last week but she postponed the ruling.

The two were arrested in June 2020 by the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZACC) in a case in which they allegedly allocated council stands to themselves without paying a cent and then went on to sell them.
They are facing four counts of criminal abuse of office.

It is in the State case that sometime in 2015, Kubiku who was the then acting Housing Director facilitated the procurement of stands measuring 3 609 and 3 610 which he did not pay for. He sold one of the stands to Kauma.

ZACC Investigating Officer Lindiwe Sabeka gave evidence against the two and accused them of prejudicing the local authority of revenue.

The two are denying the charges.

‘’I am being targeted at work, they failed to remove me from my position after an internal disciplinary hearing and now they are using the courts,’’ said Kauma.

He said that the case is fabricated. He said one of the stands that he is being questioned for was given to him as compensation for unpaid salaries. He said all workers were given such stands after council fell into a huge salaries backlog.

Kubiku also said council offered him a stand for US$500 to compensate him for unpaid. He said that the local authority still owes him RTGS$140 000.

Kubiku and Kauma are on $10 000 bail each. Noel Muranda prosecuted.
