Chiredzi businesswoman Magwayi dies in accident
CHIREDZI–Popular Chiredzi businesswoman Mavis Magwayi (55) is one of three passengers who died on the spot on Sunday after a Toyota Wish she was travelling in was involved in a head-on collision with a truck.
Masvingo Police Spokesperson Inspector Kudakwashe Dhewa confirmed the development to The Mirror.
The other two passengers who died on the spot are the driver, Alois Bwanya (65) and Albert Johina (55).
Dhewa said the accident happened at the 38km peg along Ngundu-Tanganda Highway yesterday.
Mugwayi operated a butcher at Zava Business Centre. The Mirror is reliably informed that the trio was going to buy a beast for slaughter.
Bwanya collided with an Isuzu Truck driven by Carlos Mutisi (23) and carrying 145x50kg bags of cement and 45×6 metres of iron bars.
Mutisi was driving towards Tanganda, and he attempted to overtake a truck. He realised that there was an oncoming Toyota Wish and collided. The Isuzu overturned once and landed on its roof before it caught fire.
The Toyota Wish occupants died on the spot and were taken to Chiredzi District Hospital mortuary for post-mortem.
