Chiredzi businessman gets honorary doctorate degree

CHIREDZI-The International Institute of Philanthropy (IIP) in partnership with International Women’s University (IWU) have conferred an honorary doctorate of Humane Letters Degree to Chiredzi businessman Lovemore Chiwanza.
Chiwanza who is the Resident Director and General Manager of Palm Tree Place, a guest house in Chiredzi confirmed the development and said he is humbled to receive the prestigious recognition.
He was conferred with the doctorate at a ceremony held on February 24, 2023 at Crown Plaza Hotel in Harare. The doctorate comes with a Fellow admission membership at IIP.
The doctorate is awarded to individuals who contribute significantly to humanity and philanthropy.
His citation said that he was awarded the doctorate in recognition of his contribution to humanity and philanthropic work.
“Dr Lovemore Chiwanza; DHL (Honorius causa) with all rights and privilege as you have been conferred with the above stated non-academic Honorary Doctorate of Humane Letters (DHL) in recognition of your significant contribution to humanity and philanthropy.
“The DHL, degree cannot be done via academic efforts and instead must be gained through significant contributions to humanity and Philanthropy, forming relationships with institutes like IIP while keeping good records of progress increases the livelihood of a DHL nomination,” reads part of the letter from IIP.
The institution has previous honoured former Kingdom bank founder, Nigel Chanakira, Rebecca Chisamba, Ruth Makandiwa and the late music icon, Oliver Mtukudzi among others.
Chiwanza is also involved in social work and served as Chiredzi Lyons Club president before he retired from the Club.
He was born in 1957 and has worked in different capacities. Chiwanza was one of N. Richards Group directors before he left the organisation in 2003. He has worked in the hospitality, banking, transport and wholesale sectors.
