CHIREDZI – The Chiredzi district Better Schools Program in Zimbabwe (BSPZ) building that has been under construction since 2010 is now 95% complete.
Chiredzi District Schools Inspector (DSI), Aletta Makomeke told The Mirror on the side-lines of a stakeholders meeting held at the building last Wednesday that a wing of the building should be operational by September this year.
“As you can see everything is in place, we are working on the final touches and by September 1, 2024, we will occupy the complex.
“The complex is divided into three wings so the idea is to complete the first wing which has 22 rooms and let-out the whole floor while we occupy the other floor in order to generate income to complete the other wings,” said Makomeke.
The complex houses a boardroom, library, computer laboratory and offices.
She said the project took time since most schools are in the rural setup and have challenges raising money for the project.
“Most schools are in remote areas and it was difficult to mobilise funding from those schools so most of the funding was coming from schools in urban areas and those from the estates,” said Makomeke.
Chiredzi District Development Coordinator (DDC), Lovemore Chisema who attended the meeting said he is happy with the progress that has been made.
“This kind of a building resonates very well with our President’s vision that speaks of infrastructure development and it is very critical in service provision especially under the auspices of Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education. We appreciate the effort given so far by the Ministry of Education to see to it that the building is completed,” said Chisema.
