CHIPINGE – Chipinge Town Council has elected a new chairman after his predecessor was recalled by the Douglas Mwonzora-led MDC T.
The new chairman, Lovemore Mutimwiyi (Mukwapati) who is the Ward 6 councillor was elected at a meeting held at the local authority’s boardroom today.
Ward 5 councilor Haruchemwi Vushe Nhengu was elected as his deputy. Four out of eight councilors attended the elections after their four colleagues namely Zivanai Nyakuchena (ward 1), Chrispen Rambu (ward 8), Sarah Marwa (ward 2) and Raina Madanyika (ward 4) were all recalled.
There was also restructuring of committees. Mukwapati chairs General Purpose committee and full council whilst ward 3 councillor Sarah Mlambo chairs Finance and Housing Committees.
Environmental Management and Technical Services (EMTS) and Audit committees are chaired by Elijah Mugidho who is the former vice chairman.
Mukwapati said they will work collectively with the other three remaining councilors to deliver quality and efficient services to the community.
“We will ensure there is water supply to suburbs without running water, good trafickable roads and educate the community on proper disposal of refuse,” he said.
Mukwapati is a businessman.
