CHIPINGE – Chipinge Town Council has come up with the idea of budget committee that will include residents’ representatives from all of the farming town’s eight wards.
The idea was brought up during a budget review meeting held at NSSA Gardens in the town yesterday.
The budget committee will have 30 members comprising representatives from wards, business community, small to medium entrepreneurs, industries, people with disabilities, parastatals, pastoral fraternity and residents associations.
Town chairman, Zivanai Nyakuchena said the committee will improve transparency and accountability resulting in less friction between council and residents.
He said that the move is the beginning of the review and preparation of a supplementary budget for the remainder of the year. The Ministry of Local Government has given a directive to local authorities to prepare supplementary budgets for the remainder of the year.
Ward six Council Lovemore Mukwakwami said this review was an advantage because it will also feed into next year’s budget. https://masvingomirror.com
