Chipinge Registrar in court over US$9k

CHIPINGE – Chipinge Civil Registry Office Registrar, Austin Dube (61) appeared in court Monday for on allegations of fraud involving US$9 379.
He was released on US$500 bail by Chipinge Magistrate Nixon Mungoti.
Dube is facing theft of Trust Property charges as defined in section 113 (2) (d) of the Criminal Law Codification and Reform Act, Chapter 9:23 after he allegedly took registry collection fees amounting to US$9 379.
The court heard that on August 28, 2024, Dube was given cash amounting to US$6 783 with a deposit slip for the purpose of banking the money at FBC bank in Mutare on Wednesday last week. He received the money from the accountant, Sally Muzhanje.
He left the office and tasked Muzhanje to visit other sub offices in Checheche, Chisumbanje and Chibwe. The accountant proceeded to Chibuwe, Chisumbanje and Checheche sub offices and she collected a total of US$2 586.
On August 31, 2024, the accused went to the accountant carrying a black plastic bag and allegedly instructed her to open and count cash which was inside. The cash amounted to US$3 523 as opposed to the actual figure.
Dube allegedly instructed the accountant to rewrite a deposit slip with different figures. This did not go well with the accountant who then advised the Provincial Registrar.
A report was made to the Police.
