CHIPINGE – A Chipinge man (30) has been sentenced to two and half years in jail for stabbing a friend with an empty beer bottle for attempting to refrain him fighting another friend at a nightclub.
Chipinge Magistrate Noel Mupeiwa commuted Nigel Mlambo’s (30) sentence to 525 hours of community service at Chipinge Urban Police station.
Mlambo of 91 Low density suburb, Chipinge stabbed Paul Simoyi (27) of M1130 Gaza A, Chipinge with a broken bottle and the latter sustained deep cut wounds on the left side of the stomach and left hand.
The incident happened on January 14, 2023 at around 3 am at Chitima Night Club.
Magistrate Mupeiwa commuted the sentence after noting that Mlambo showed remorse and handled Simoyi’s medical bills and apologized.
Circumstances are that Simoyi was drinking beer at Chitima Night Club with Mlambo and his cousin Brighton Dube.
Mlambo had a misunderstanding with Dube outside the bar and when Simoyi went outside to investigate why the two were taking long to come back, he found them fighting.
Simoyi then restrained the two by grabbing Mlambo from the back and pulling him away from Dube. Mlambo then picked up an empty beer bottle, smashed it on the ground and stabbed Simoyi who sustained deep cut wounds on the left side of the stomach and left hand.
He was taken to Chipinge District Hospital where he was treated and later discharged.
