Chipinge man ‘rapes’, impregnates minor (12)

CHIPINGE-Police in Manicaland have launched a manhunt for Joseph Muguruzo (21) who allegedly raped and impregnated a minor (12) after she turned down his love proposals twice.

Manicaland Police spokesperson Nobert Muzondo confirmed the matter to Chipinge Times.

Muguruzo of Muyambo Village, Chief Musikavanhu in Chipinge allegedly waylaid and raped the minor in May 2022 on her way home from buying airtime at his homestead. The minor had been sent by her elder sister. 

“We are investigating a case of a juvenile (12) from Muyambo village, Chief Musikavanhu in Chipinge who was raped by Joseph Muguruzo of the same village. Muguruzo is on the run and we are appealing for any information that can lead to his arrest,” said Muzondo.  

Muguruzo first proposed love to the minor on her way from school in May and she turned him down. On the fateful day, Muguruzo proposed love to the minor after she came to buy airtime and she turned him down. 

He then allegedly waylaid her on her way home and raped her once before threatening her against disclosing the matter to anyone. 

The rape came to light after the girl fell pregnant and she narrated what had happened to her family.

A Police report was filed and the minor was referred to Chipinge District Hospital for a medical examination.
