Chimusana Bridge foundation to be complete before the rains

Masvingo – The foundation work on two bridges being constructed across Mucheke River in Masvingo should reach above flood level before the rains, Masvingo town clerk Engineer Edward Mukaratirwa has said.

He said that contractors are planning to lay the foundation of two bridges that are being constructed across Mucheke before the rain season to ensure that there will be no disturbances of the work programme because of the floods.

“Concrete work should be above the floods level before the beginning of the rains so that there will be no obstruction of work. You can see that preliminary work on the bridges has started.

“We are excited about the bridges because the congestion witnessed whenever there is a breakdown at or near Mucheke Bridge have been serious. The new bridges will decongest Chimusana,” said Mukaratirwa.

He also noted the progress being made by Masimba Construction in dualising Masvingo Highway through the CBD to 10km on either side of the city. He said that surfacing has already started to the north of the town in the direction of Harare.
