MUTARE – Two siblings aged four years and 18 months were burnt to death while playing at home in Chimanimani last Monday.
Manicaland Police Spokesperson Inspector Nobert Muzondo confirmed the incident to Chipinge Times.
He said Ruvarashe Mafoti (4) and Ropafadzo Mafoti (18 months) were burnt at Chikona Village, Chief Mutambara around 4: 50 pm.
Circumstances are that the two were left playing with another minor aged three by their grandmother Sophia Chihota (46) who had gone to the garden.
The trio went into a thatched toilet and lit a fire. Ruvarashe and Ropafadzo were burnt to death. The third minor sustained severe burns.
A neighbour Richon Chemanyisa (44) put out the fire using water and sand. It was, however, too late for the sisters.
Their bodies were taken to Mutambara Hospital while the other minor was referred to Victoria Chitepo Hospital.
