Chikomba man jailed 15 years for raping 104-year-old grandma

CHIKOMBA— Regional Magistrate Tranos Utahwashe has sentenced a Chikomba man to an effective 15 years in jail for raping a 104 year-old woman.
Taringwanashe Mbwera (20) of Rufu Village, Chief Mutekedza was convicted on his own plea. The incident happened on Monday night.
Mbwera said he was intoxicated when he raped the woman (name withheld).
He allegedly forced her to choose between being raped and being murdered.
Circumstances are that the woman was asleep in her bedroom and Mbwera gained entrance through an unlocked door.
He warned her against screaming using a knife and gave her the two options.
The woman refused to take both options and threatened to scream. Mbwera carried her off the bed, laid her on the floor and raped her. She screamed for help and her granddaughter who was sleeping in another room rushed to the bedroom.
The granddaughter arrived after Mbwera had escaped. She accompanied her grandmother to file a Police report at Masasa Police Station.
Mbwera was arrested on Thursday and appeared in court today.
