CHIKOMBA – Chikomba District Development Co-ordinator, Michael Mariga who has been on suspension from work for allegedly soliciting US$150 bribe from a donor is back at work.
He was suspended by his employer, the Ministry of Local Government, Rural and Urban development in November 2021 for allegedly demanding a bribe from Dangwa Initiative Trust, an NGO that wanted to sign an MOU to work in the district.

The Mirror is informed that Mariga started work on Monday, April 25, 2022.
Mariga confirmed the development in a telephone call from The Mirror but hang up and switched off the moment he realised he was talking to a reporter.
The Permanent Secretary for Provincial Affairs could not be reached for comment as his mobile went unanswered.

Apart from suspension from work, Mariga went through a grueling court trial and was acquitted of the bribe charges by Magistrate Sam Chitumwa. However, Prosecutor Corrence Chimbadzwa has since appealed against the judgment, describing it as so inconsistent with logic and common sense that it was perverse.
Chivhu Residents and Ratepayers Alliance Chairman Collen Zvarevashe said the community has lost trust in Mariga and NGOs will no longer be forthcoming. He called on Government to transfer him.

“If you want my services you can come at my office at range, I am there till 5:00 pm, you can also come tomorrow I will be there,” said Mariga during a call with The Mirror.
