Chikomba awards 7 outstanding Agritex officers

CHIVHU— Chikomba Ward 21 Agricultural Extension (Agritex) Officer Lissom Mhlanga is the 2023 district Agritex officer.

He received a Heifer, 25 kg seed from Seedco, a shovel, US$ 40, 10-day-old chicks, and a certificate at a ceremony at his homestead.

Agritex Director Training and Information Sibangilizwe Dlodlo was the guest of honour. He was accompanied by Mashonaland East deputy director for crop production Leonard Munamati, Chikomba District Livestock specialist Cosmas Ratsakatika and Chikomba Agritex head Chiturike Pasipanodya.

Prosper Chikeya was voted second. He received a solar irrigation system, 10kg seed from Seedco, a shovel, a certificate and US$10. Abide Machinga received two goats, 10kg seed from Seedco, a shovel, a certificate and US$10 for coming third. Runesu Masimba came fourth and received a goat, 10 kg Seedco, a shovel, a certificate and US$10.

Elizabeth Maposa was adjudged fifth and took home a goat, five kg Seedco seed, a certificate, a shovel and US$10. Farai Chingarande was sixth. He received a goat, five kg Seedco seed, a certificate, a shovel and US$10. Shepherd Muzamindo came seventh and received a goat, five kg Seedco seed, a certificate, a shovel and US$10. Molline Chitungo was adjudged the best Agritex officers’ supervisor and she received US$20.

One of the adjudicators Victor Gonga said Mhlanga was voted the best for his innovative projects and record-keeping. He said Mhlanga initiated several new projects and organic manure made from mulberry tree leaves.

Dlodlo applauded the district officers for holding the award ceremony. He said that this motivates employees to give their best.

“This event motivates extension officers. I also want to salute the Chikomba district for holding this event successfully. I believe this event will motivate other districts and provinces to do the same,” said Dlodlo

The awards were sponsored by Chikomba West legislator and Minister of Information, Communication, Technology Postal and Courier Services (ICT) Tatenda Mavetera, Farm Shop, Farmer’s Choice, Vast Africa, Delta Beverages and Seedco.

Mhlanga said he was elated to be adjudged Agritex district officer of the year. He said some of the projects he introduced include a siphon water system and organic manure.

Ratsakatika said Chikomba has set the pace and such events will continue as they help the sector to achieve its agricultural set targets. He said the awards began last year as a means of motivating Agritex officers.
