MASVINGO – Chikato Primary and Zimuto High schools have won the provincial hackathon competitions held at Masvingo Christian College on Wednesday.
The two will now represent the province at the national competitions running from Monday to Friday at the National University of Technology (NUST) in Bulawayo.
Chiredzi came second with Helen McGhie on third place in the primary schools category and will also represent the province.
Masvingo Christian came second in the secondary schools category with Ndarama High on third place.
The competitions are sponsored by the World Robot Olympiad Zimbabwe.
The competition involved demonstration of skills and the ability to use technology by school children.
World Robot Olympiad national coordinator for Zimbabwe, Victoria Nxumalo said the high turnout of schools was motivating.
“I didn’t think the schools will turn out this way. The results are quite positive and it gives hope for a better technological future.
“For those who did not make it to the national level, the hope is still there as we will host such events frequently so that the little geniuses get much exposure and showcase their skills,” she said.
