MASVINGO – Acting Chief Nyamandi born Siyano Machaya is allegedly withholding land donated to an apostolic sect by a headman in his area because the church leader is a CCC member.
The land was donated to Sangano rava Postori headed by Innocent Bhera a prominent Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) member by headman Tapurai born John Gudo.
Headman Tapurai confirmed the matter to The Mirror.
“I donated a piece of land to Bishop Mugwagwa Tuhwi in 2006 after they approached me. The church had a conference here last year and asked for an extension which I gladly gave them.
“The chief is refusing them access to the extension. He is accusing us of supporting CCC. He has even refused to listen to the matter at his court,” he said.
Efforts to get a comment from the chief were futile.
Bhera told The Mirror that Zanu PF Gutu Ward 11 youth chairperson Nobert Chisoro has also laid claim to the same land.
“I am the church leader in Gutu. Our bishop is in Buhera. The headman gave us a 25 m extension to the stand. We had a conference and the stand was small, that is why church elders asked for the extension.
Chisoro’s stand is next to the church and he is claiming that the headman gave me land on political grounds. The land belongs to the church not me. The church got the first land donation in 2006. The chief is refusing to entertain our claim to the land at his court. Chisoro is ploughing on the 25m,” he said.
Efforts to get a comment from Chisoro were futile as his mobile phone was not reachable by the time of going to Press.
Nyamandi’s family recently disowned him after he openly told his subjects that anyone who campaigned and voted for CCC will not receive presidential inputs.
