Chief Inspector Mudavanhu retires

SHURUGWI – Chief Inspector Cephas Mudavanhu who endeared himself with motorists in Masvingo for his daily traffic congestion updates is retiring.
Mudavanhu retires from ZRP on September 7, 2024 after 28 years of service.
Mudavanhu was the first Officer-in-Charge of traffic in Masvingo to give daily traffic congestion updates to motorists in the city and he did this through The Mirror and other digital platforms.
The strategy ensured swift attendance by Police to congestion as he introduced a professional approach to traffic management that saw efficient scene attendance, decongestion and regular crime awareness campaign.
” I have worked hard, served the community and it’s now my time to go,” said Mudavanhu.
Mudavanhu was attested into ZRP on April 29, 1996, the same year he married his wife Loveness Mudavanhu. He worked at Mbare and was the first male cop to be posted to the Victim Friendly Unit during it’s pilot project phase.
In 1998, he was transferred to PGHQ taking on the responsibilities of selection and recruitment. He was promoted to sergeant in 2002 and Assistant Inspector in 2008 and transferred to PGHQ Operations.
In 2012, he rose to the rank of Inspector and continued as Officer in Charge of PGHQ Operations. In the same year, he was seconded to Peacekeeping duties in South Sudan under the United Nations Mission (UNMISS), where he served as the Chief of Reporting managing all mission reports to New York. He returned in 2014 and took the duty of Officer on Law Research and Development at PGHQ Legal Service.
He was promoted to Chief Inspector in 2022 and transferred to Masvingo as Officer Masvingo Traffic. In Masvingo, he established strong working relationships with the media.
Mudavanhu is about to complete a Bachelor of Business Administration in Risk and Security Management in addition to several other diplomas that he is armed with.
