Chief Chitanga, Nhema re-elected into Senate

MASVINGO-Chief Chitanga of Mwenezi born Feleni Chauke has been unanimously re-elected into the senate for a fourth term.
He garnered 30 votes at Chiefs Hall yesterday. Thirty out of 35 substantive chiefs voted.
Chief Nhema of Zaka born Ranganai Bwawanda was re-elected for a second term. He got 18 votes. Chef Serima born Venganai Rushwaya who contested him got 12 votes.
Each province held a chiefs electoral college yesterday to elect their members to the senate.
Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) Masvingo Provincial Elections Officer, Pudurai Zex Zirabada presided over the elections. He said the elections were conducted peacefully.
Chief Chitanga has been a senator chief since his first election in 2008. He told The Mirror that he is honoured by the confidence that his fellow chiefs have shown.
“I want to thank my fellow chiefs for the confidence they have showed in me. I will be their servant for the coming five years again. Achievement is about unity and peace and this enhances development. Our duties as Senators are to make sure that the laws of the country are in tandem with our culture. The infusion of our culture into our laws will help us a lot,” he said.
Chief Murinye of Masvingo Rural said the election proceeded peacefully.
