CHIREDZI – The installation of the new Chief Chilonga born John Beni which was supposed to take place on Thursday this week has been postponed for the fourth time.
Chiredzi District Development Coordinator, (DDC), Lovemore Chisema confirmed the development and said the cancellation of the event is because Government departments are currently busy with preparations for the Southern African Development Community (SADC) summit to be held in Harare next month.
The installation of Chief Gutu was also postponed this week and this was for the second time.
Beni was appointed in August 2021 and the first date for installation was October 20, 2023 which was changed to December 6, 2023 and then July 25, 2024. Government has not given a new date for the installation.
The installation was supposed to take place at the chief’s home in Gwaseche, Chiredzi.
“Chief Chilonga’s installation was supposed to take place again tomorrow (Thursday) but as you know the country is busy preparing for the upcoming SADC summit and our honourable Ministers are committed,” said Chisema.
Chilonga was appointed at the same time with chiefs Mpapa and Chief Gezani who have both since been installed.
When contacted by The Mirror Chief Chilonga said he was patient and would wait for the next date.
“It’s unfortunate that my installation always clashes with important events. However I am patient and I know that my day for installation will come, it will happen,” said Chilonga.
