MASVINGO-Magistrate Rethakgetsi Silaigwana has remanded Chief Fortune Charumbira’s messenger, a Fawcett Security guard and another man out of custody for allegedly destroying mining equipment valued at US$16 622.
The trio of Chief Charumbira’s messengers, Ramion Mudavanhu, Thompson Tizanai (57) and Noria Chimbiri (43) from Mbudzi Village under Chief Charumbira, will be back in court on July 4, 2023.
The court heard that the trio allegedly destroyed the property under the pretext that they had an eviction order for Francis Nyakurita’s Melon 1 Mine signed by Chief Charumbira.
Circumstances are that on March 7, 2023, the trio allegedly went to the mine in Mbudzi Village under Chief Charumbira, where they threatened workers and destroyed solar cables and a 540 watts solar pump.
They then told the mine employees they should leave the area or be killed.
On the next day, the trio returned to the mine and told the miners that they had been given an eviction order by Chief Charumbira.
They destroyed a pulling wheel which caused oil leaks, a hammer mill, solar panels, and a room valued at US$16 6222.
