MASVINGO – Delta Corporation-sponsored Chibuku Neshamwari has returned after a two-year hiatus with Masvingo provincial competitions slated for tomorrow (Saturday) at Farai Beer hall in Mucheke.
The premier traditional dance festival had a two year hiatus owing to COVID-19.


A statement released by Delta Corporation dated May 17, 2022 confirms the resumption of the festival that is coordinated by the National Arts Council of Zimbabwe (NAC) and Zimbabwe National Traditional Dance Association (ZNTDA). Delta Corporation sponsors the festival through its Chibuku brand.
“Good news, Chibuku Neshamwari Dance Festival is back. We are pleased to announce that Chibuku Neshamwari will roar to life on May 28, 2022. The property has over the years afforded dance groups global recognition and performances at various corporate and cultural events,” reads part of the statement.


In Masvingo, some of the competing groups are Musa, Darerimwe, Matande, Guhudza, Jeketera, Muhuru, Dzimbahwe, Dzorirangoma and Ivhuinhaka. The dance groups will showcase Bira, Matendera, Majukwa and sideways dances among others.
The provincial competitions are running from May 28 to July 23, 2022 and winners will tussle it out at the national competition at a date and venue yet to be advised.


Matebeleland South provincial competition will be held on June 18, 2022 at Manz’amnyama Beer hall in Gwanda, Midlands at Zaire Cocktail Bar in Gweru on June 25, Manicaland at Chinyamura Beer hall, Mutare on July 9.
Chibuku Neshamwari was launched in 1963 and has been promoting and preserving traditional dances for the past 59 years.
