CHECHECHE- Chipinge Rural District Council (RDC) has installed 52 street lights at Checheche Growth Point.
The human resources and administration head Takesure Madhuveko told Chipinge Times last week that the lights were installed at a cost $6,6 million.
“The lights cover N. Richard – ZAOGA Road and in that road up to Agribank we have a total of 18 lights. We installed six lights at the central growth point place and 28 lights along the highway. We still need more lights in the growth point but the first phase has been successfully completed,” he said.

This is the first time that the RDC has used solar power in Checheche. The project contracted to a Harare based company, Mikeledi Resources Cooperation was started in April 2022 using devolution funds.
However, one of the problems with solar lights is rampant vandalism and all street lights at Chipinge Town Council were vandalised.
Madhuveko said that the contractor promised to provide theft and vandal -proof systems in future.

Residents who spoke to Chipinge Times were delighted.
“At least our council has done something meaningful with devolution money. We urge them to continue developing our area,” said Peter Kaziboni.

“Our growth point is full of activity and street lights are a necessity,” said Dakarai Murwira.https://masvingomirror.com/
