CHIREDZI – Officer-in-Charge (OIC) at Chambuta Police Station in Chiredzi Assistant Inspector Justice Chiwara died in Bulawayo yesterday around 4 pm after being thrown out of the loading box of a speeding Police vehicle.
Bulawayo Acting Police Spokesperson, Nomalanga Msebele referred questions to national spokesperson Assistant Inspector Paul Nyathi. Nyathi said he was yet to receive information about the accident.
Sources close to the matter confirmed Chiwara’s death to The Mirror.
They said he was in Bulawayo for familiarisation with Mahindra vehicles procured by the Government for the Police recently.
Circumstances are that an officer stationed at Triangle Police Station was undergoing instruction along Nyamadhlovu Road from Bulawayo.
Chiwara and two other officers were seated in the loading box. The driver mistakenly accelerated instead of braking at the intersection.
The instructor applied the emergency brake to stop the vehicle but the Mahindra overturned and landed on its side.
Chiwara and the two other officers were thrown out of the vehicle. He died on the spot while the other officers sustained minor injuries.
