Masvingo – The Roman Catholic Church is proposing its ninth diocese in Zimbabwe.
The Church announced this during its church services on Sunday and proposed to divide the Archdiocese of Harare and create a new diocese called Marondera.
The reason for the division is that the Archdiocese of Harare is too big to be served from one center hence Marondera will become a new diocese.
In a true spirit of transparency and good will, the new idea will only be endorsed upon submission of reports and registers of attendance signed by all deaneries, the deans, chairpersons and deanery secretaries and submitted to the Pastoral office not later than December 30, 2022.
Questionnaires are being sent to the deaneries to get their views on whether they accept the idea or not. They are also being asked to give reasons why they think a ninth deanery is viable or not viable. They will get a chance to debate the name of the new diocese although Marondera is the suggested name.
Just as in a delimitation process, they are being asked to suggest boundaries of the two deaneries.
Efforts to get a comment from the church were futile.
