Calvin takes over at Mutsambiwa Architects

MASVINGO – Calvin Mutsambiwa, a former chief architect at the Ministry of Works and Transport in Windhoek has taken over at Mutsambiwa Architects in Masvingo following the death of his brother, the founding Principal Architect, Cassian Mutsambiwa last week.

Calvin has vast experience in architecture having worked in Zimbabwe and abroad.

A statement from Mutsambiwa Architects in the hands of The Mirror confirms the development and says this is to allow continuity of the company.

“Mutsambiwa Architects has engaged Calvin Mutsambiwa to ensure continuity of the firm, we cherish our clients and hope to give excellent service as was the case before the founding architect passed on,” reads part of the letter.

Calvin who is a former chairperson of the Department of Architecture at the National University of Science and Technology (NUST) has many works of architecture to his tribute both locally and abroad.

He worked for a private company in Botswana, the Government of Namibia and is now running his own company Calvinos Mutsambiwa Architects in the same country. Before Namibia, Calvin worked for the Ministry of Public Construction in Harare before leaving for Botswana where he was senior architect at Arctez Consulting Architects.

He designed many projects for the Namibian Government from 2012 to 2020 including involvement in the design of the Parliament of the Republic of Namibia and renovation of the SADC Parliamentary Forum in Windhoek.

In Botswana he was involved with design and supervision of the construction of the Botswana International University of Science and Technology. There are many projects that he was involved in when he worked for the Government of Zimbabwe including libraries at Masvingo, Kwekwe, Harare, Mutare technical colleges and the Joshua Mqabuko Airport in Bulawayo.

He did his industrial attachment at Frank Reimann Architects, Weimar in Germany.

The late Cassian Mutsambiwa, a renowned architect who left an indelible mark in the Ancient City including the designing of buildings like OK Supermarket, OK Mart, the Roman Catholic Church Cathedral, Gain Supermarket and Great Zimbabwe University structures passed on two weeks ago after succumbing to a kidney ailment.https://masvingomirror.com
