MASVINGO – Byword Motors, a leading southern region transport and construction company has donated a vehicle for use by the neighbourhood watch in Masvingo.
The Dahatsu Boon which was handed over to Masvingo Central, Officer-in-Charge Richard Mugadza on Friday will be used for patrols in the city and the aim is to reduce crime.
Byword operations manager Ephraim Museva said the donation is part of the company’s Social Corporate Responsibility.
Masvingo has in the past few years been bedeviled by armed robberies, unlawful entries and break-ins particularly in the low density suburbs of Rhodhene and Zimre Park.
Provincial Police spokesperson Inspector Kudakwashe Dhewa hailed Byword for the gesture and said that the vehicle will go a long way in helping the fight against crime.
“On behalf of the Police, I wish to appreciate the gesture by the business community led by Byword Motors. This will immensely help us in fighting crime. Policing is the responsibility of everyone and we call upon different communities to assist in the fight to reduce crime,” said Dhewa.
“It’s part of our Social Corporate Responsibility to give back to the community. Thus, today we donate this car to help in the fight against crime,” said Museva.
Museva also pledged to maintain the vehicle through his company. Present during the presentation was Assistant Commissioner Fredrick Mbengo and Superintendent Vulindela Jamela representing the Officer Commanding Masvingo Province.
