MASVINGO-Masvingo’s Business Against Crime Forum of Zimbabwe (BACFOZ) donated a Toyota Wish purchased for US$9 680 to Masvingo Criminal Investigations Department (CID).
The vehicle was handed over at a ceremony at Masvingo ZRP Phoenix camp on Wednesday. Assistant Commissioner Godfrey Zimbwa was the guest of honour.
CID Superintendent Kelton Chigona, Masvingo CID Officer in Charge Chief Inspector Hazvineyi Jindu, Masvingo Town Clerk Engineer Edward Mkaratirwa, BACFOZ members and other senior CID officers attended the handover.
BACFOZ Chairperson and AFC Commercial Bank Manager Walter Mleya said the money was raised by Glow Petroleum, Zb Bank, Great Zimbabwe Realtors, Bakers World, AFC Bank, Byword Motors, N Richards, Okmart, Phil air, Universal Hardware, Econet and Nyaradzo.
He said they aim to create a crime-free environment by equipping Police with the resources it needs to execute their duties.
“We have lost lives to armed robbers. Our donation is a gesture aimed at increasing mobility and visibility for our detectives as they execute their duties of detecting and investigating all serious cases and ensuring a free crime society.
“On behalf of BACFOZ, we hope that Masvingo CID will put the vehicle into good use by attending crime scenes, investigations, and patrols among other operations. Our dream is to make Masvingo a crime-free zone that is conducive for investments,” he said.
Jindu said her department made arrests using personal vehicles. She expressed gratitude for the donation.
“I thank BACFOZ for their effort by donating a vehicle for our operations against crime. Let me assure you that our detectives will fulfil their mandate of curbing crime in Masvingo. This is not a dwelling place for criminals and we shall bring them to book,” she said.
