BUALWAYO – New Bulawayo mayor, David Coltart has promised to revive the City Council’s business ventures as one way of increasing revenue sources.
He said it is only when these are revived that the council can consider slushing the current rates.
“Council has businesses. We can look at how efficiently these are being run. For example we used to have Aisleby Farm which was highly productive but no longer produces to the same levels.
“We also have buildings and other properties which were run efficiently and providing alternative revenue streams,” said Coltart.
He also pointed out the need to improve the city’s revenue collection and its efficiency.
“If you want to make online payment to the city council it is very difficult. I do not really understand why it is like this but the system is not working efficiently. We also have an unacceptable high percentage of rate payers who are not paying rates or are very behind in paying,” he said.
