Buhera soccer club takes drug awareness campaigns to schools

BUHERA– Mangwandi Rovers FC, a Buhera social league soccer team has embarked on drug and substance abuse and early child marriage campaigns in schools in the district.
Team head Coach Gabriel Jakarasi told Mirror Sport, that the initiative is a way of occupying youth in villages to refrain from drug abuse and early marriages.
The awareness campaigns began on February 2, 2023 at Hande High School and the event was graced by Chief Chimombe.
“We came up with the idea of holding campaigns against drug abuse as a way of educating youth on the negative effects of drugs and also as a way to occupy them so that they do not get involved in drugs as they are dangerous to their health,” said Jakarasi.
Hande High School headmaster Nyika Musha said he is grateful to the team for educating students on the dangers caused by drug abuse.
“We welcome the idea by Mangwandi Rovers FC as it is aiming at educating our students on drug abuse which has become a threat to young peoples’ health around the globe. It a good thing as it help our students in terms of discipline,” said Musha.
The club was formed during the COVID-19 with the thrust of educating the youth on the dangers of drug abuse.
Mangwandi Rovers FC also plans to compete in the Eastern Region Soccer League in the near future.
