Buhera family evacuated as rock emits heat, smoke, tremors

BUHERA – The Buhera District Civil Protection Unit (CPU) has ordered a family from Chief Makumbe’s area in Buhera to vacate its home after a large rock in the homestead cracked and started emitting smoke, heat and tremors.

The geological process which started last week on Sunday is also said to be producing a lot of noise. The incident happened at Magret Manika’s homestead in Ward 1.

Buhera CPU chairperson Freeman Mavhiza confirmed the development and told Chipinge Times that Manika has since been instructed to vacate her homestead to a place that is 1km away. Geologists will monitor the situation for the sometime.

The crack is said to be 25m long and 2.5m deep and a team of geologists from Mutare visited the place on Monday to investigate.
“For her safety and as a precautionary measure, we asked her to move away from the place while experts (geologists) monitor the situation for five to 10 days and they will advise thereafter,” said Mavhiza. https://masvingomirror.com
