Buhera – A couple residing at Dakoni Village, Chief Chamutsa, Buhera was severely assaulted by robbers who went on to ransack their house, Manicaland Police spokesperson Nobert Muzondo has confirmed.
The robbers collected US$870 and ZAR3 000 which they knew had been collected from members of a burial society on the day.
Danai Maparara (72) together with his wife Shorai Maparara (65) were sleeping in their bedroom last Tuesday when armed robbers pounced on their homestead. Maparara is in stable condition in hospital.
“They heard a knock on the door at 2 am and opened the door. Two men, one armed with a machete demanded cash from them,” according to a Police report.
One of the robbers said Maparara had money collected for the burial society, but Maparara denied knowledge of the said money.
One of the robbers then slapped him once on the face while the other joined by hitting him several times on the ribs with the flat side of the machete.
He was force marched to his bedroom where he surrendered a cash box containing US$870 and ZAR3 000.
No arrests have been made so far.
Maparara sustained a swollen rib cage and is admitted at Birchnough Bridge Hospital.
