MUTARE-Multi award-winning Rusape boxer Anesu Motsi (28) is appealing for financial assistance from the business community in Manicaland to further his career.
He told Chipinge Times in an interview that he has missed out on several international tournaments owing to a lack of funding.
“I started Boxing in 2009. I have fought in Russia, South Africa, Ghana, Namibia, and Egypt. I have 28 career gold medals. We are lacking sponsorship in boxing. With sponsorship I can challenge for any title in the world and bring the coveted price home,” he said.
He has an impressive 28 career gold medals in different tournaments. Motsi is the reigning national heavyweight champion with nine wins (five knockouts and four wins on points). He has recorded just one defeat.
Motsi works at PanMart Supermarket in Rusape. He is competing at the All Africa games in Cameron on a date to be announced. He said he is ready for the tournament, and his biggest challenge is sponsorship.
His manager Robson Maganga said Motsi is now at the stage of representing the country at a global level.
“We need to make our boxer well represented so that he takes his boxing title to another stage. We have had Mungwaru Inc based in the UK who pledged to assist Motsi with boxing clothing, and it is our appeal that those in business should also extend a helping hand to this young boxer while he is still in his prime time, said Maganga.
He also said that Mungwaru Inc will be dressing Motsi for all matches including his training gear and gloves. The UK-based company is also assisting in looking for boxing equipment which shall be used to develop the sport from the grassroots.
